Jinx!

I think @logrec is asking if multi-taps can be bound vs on/off/dim commands (right?)

I donā€™t believe this is possible as the multi-taps are a private cluster that we had to make and the bulb(s) likely wouldnā€™t support that, but Iā€™ll let the experts chime in as Iā€™m not 100% sure.

Ah yep I misread that.

Technically, no I donā€™t believe it would be possible to bind the multitaps from one switch to any bulb even if itā€™s on the same circuit (they wouldnā€™t know what to do with the multitap events even if they did get them). The multitap events are just received by the hub and are available for scene control or automations, which will allow you to control bulbs on other circuits.

Agreed, this isnā€™t a ā€œthingā€ supported by Zigbee as far as I am aware. Z-wave doesnā€™t either with associations as far as I am aware.

Yes, @Eric_Inovelli had it right! I was curious about the multi-taps specifically. I figured the answer was no, but thought maybe it was possible somehow nonetheless. Good to know that it isnā€™t. It wonā€™t be an issue at all just interacting with the scene/multi-tap events through my HA hub. Thanks all for answering so quickly.

So, after getting my order in for two 10packs, I figured I had better get some other Zigbee stuff. My Amazon box just showed up. I got the Conbee II controller. I also received 4 Jasco in-wall outlets with 1 controllable zigbee outlet, 4 aqara motion sensors and 4 agara ā€œcubesā€.

So, with the Blue switches, I should have a nice robust, 32 device mesh network. Iā€™m very much looking forward to going all-in with automations for my home via Home Assistant and all this Zigbee stuff.

Hate to sound like a pessimist here, but have you checked the devices you purchased against the compatibility of those aqara devices? Xiaomi doesnā€™t comform to zigbee standards and with certain devices they are very well known to drop off the network. The good news is, itā€™s not too difficult to put them on their own network and can easily be done with a sonoff zigbee stick for like 20 bucks. I struggled keeping my aqara devices connected until I built a separate aqara/ikea only network and theyā€™ve been rock solid ever since!

I plan to use zigbee2mqtt within Home Assistant to run things and the best I can tell all are supported and have seen anecdotal reports that the aqara cubes and motion sensors work well with the Conbee stick via Home Assistant. I suppose Iā€™ll be finding out about some of it when I have a free weekend to get things going.

Enough of this technical mumbo jumbo about the functionality of these switches. I just wanna know when I can buy one at my local home depot.

I was more thinking the Jasco outlets. Check out this thread here. And even with that, Iā€™ve got 18 of the Sinope Thermostats listed as compatible, but the second I join one onto my separate Aqara/Ikea network, the Aqara sensors start dropping off. Theyā€™re very finicky, but when you get them solid theyā€™re awesome sensors! Iā€™ve got 20 of them and will probably add another 10-15 more.

Apparently you need to go visit the folks at Linus Media Group and spend some time with their color chips! Maybe for the right sponsorship deal on his new house, heā€™ll hook ya up

The Jasco 43132 outlets that I have are listed as compatible with zigbee2mqtt. I guess I should unbox all of the stuff and start tinkering now so that I am up and running by the time I get my Blue switches. Now to see if I can find some free time to do soā€¦

Lol! @harjms sent me this the other day

My favorite part, ā€œPantone recommends we swap out the color books every 12-18 months - they cost $500/pieceā€

It inspired a new business model for Inovelli. We recommend you guys swap out your light switches every year or so as technology changes!

Still better than subscription based switches.

Firmware updates take on a whole new meaning (firm wares). Ha.

Must be Fridayā€¦

Many people have bought into that business model because they keep buying cloud-controlled wifi smarthome devices.

I think the concern is less the support with zigbee2mqtt and more that the Aqara sensors may not play nice with them. Only one way to know for sure though

I think Iā€™m probably not explaining it well. Ya theyā€™ll work with z2m, and the aqara sensors will work with z2m, and a whole slew of other stuff. The issue with the aqara sensors are because they are not fully compliant with the zigbee specs. So they have little quirks in them. And because of that, sometimes putting a device on the network that doesnā€™t talk in the exact way the aqara sensors will understand, will cause the aqara sensor to ā€œleave the roomā€ and drop off the network. So itā€™s more about the devices working with each other than it is having them work with z2m.

I just started working on getting zigbee2mqtt going, started with 3 tuya USB repeaters and have about half my aqara sensors on it. I didnā€™t know about the forcing onto a specific router aspect, seems I made a good choice getting 2 SONOFF sticks, I can flash the second one as a repeater central in my home.
